Has anyone here used a DVD/CD burner with Lightscribe technology? I would be interested to hear what your experiences with this technolgy are.
For those who do not know what Lightscribe is, here is a link:

well, it's probably a nifty thing for the general person, but for people that do graphical work, it's super freaking awesome, almost "groovy." It's not worth messing with on everything you burn, but it's nice to hand in a cdrom-portfolio like that. The image isn't perfect like a high quality print, you can see the halftone dots, but it is really amazing, has a nice effect to it and couldn't be much easier to do. The things under 100 bucks anyway, you can't go wrong.
But don't trust the pictures on the web, you'll want to see how a disc really looks in person, a lot of stores have them on display, a few would burn test copies for you.

I think this technology sounds cool, but it would be hard to give up my full color discs printed on my Epson R200.
How much does it cost for Lightscribe discs?

horiz0n, Thanks for yor input.
Tarkus, I have been told that the media is pretty comparable to regular media, maybe a few cents more per disk.

it's just a tad more, but I still keep both since it's not worth the time for every thing I burn to be labeled with the lightscribe. The color thing isn't bad, but laser engraved holographic like images will sell you quick. The discs are about the same as normal ones, the ones you print on, or the lighscribe, but you don't have to buy a printer or keep replacing ink. You really should just check one of the displays out to see if you like it, some things would be more fitted with 4color print than a laser etching. But overall this is one of those things that just made me really happy to have, even though I don't use it all that much. USB drives rock

I've heard about these burners. I however haven't seen them or the results. I was thinking about buying one though just to have one. It's new, so I might wait till the next generation. But, we'll see.

But where do you get the images? Does it work well using color images (albeit without color)? I generally don't have to create anything for my Epson R200, because I usually have a copy of the original label available, or at least a box cover.

You can do the same thing, but it will all be monochromatic, like a black and white picture only golden looking.

Never go to OfficeMax as long as NewEgg exists. http://www2.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?Submit=GO&Range=1&description=lightscribe&InnerCata=5
